I live in Orlando, Florida… well, actually just east and a wee bit south of it. I’m 47. Being active and in good shape has always been an important part of my life. My father got me started in martial arts [judo] at the age of 6 and I never looked back.

Sports Vitals [what I've done competition-wise]:

  • Judo
  • Basketball
  • Field Hockey
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Running [the one thing in which I still compete]
  • Karate

adidas Vitals [what I own]:

  • Shoes: adidas Supernova Glide, 2 pair, women’s size 9 [they've stopped making them! GAH.]
  • Shorts: adidas Response Baggy 5″, 7″ and  preferably 9″, 4 pair, medium [men's; women's are too clingy]
  • Hat: adidas women’s visor
  • Sunglasses: adidas Gazelle A129-S with the Rx insert [blind as a bat, I am]
  • Shirts: adidas women’s response short sleeve, 2, medium [climacool]

chari pink panther_smI usually run on trails and have recently switched to running on road surfaces to get ready for the half marathon. My knees were not happy; neither was my back. I practice ChiRunning, which has greatly contributed to almost completely reducing any aches and pains I’d started to experience. I use ClifShot Bloks and Gels for fuel and wear a kiwi green helium fuelbelt with 2 bottles when running longer distances. I don’t like carrying anything in my hands when I run, but still carry a hand cloth for my sweat which usually ends up in my left hand anyway. I wear a Sansa Clip+ mp3 player on which I have my “running” playlist. It consists of songs from the 70s and a few others which kids nowadays would actually recognize.

I regularly [sort of] have run 5K races since the early 80s [yes, when dinosaurs roamed the earth], ran one 10K and a couple 7 milers. While running in Hawaii, I once got lost and ran over 10 miles before calling my mom from a pay phone to come get me. I had to borrow a quarter from some guy in the convenience store — I was 18 or 19 at the time and probably didn’t even break a sweat.

I live with my partner of 11.5 years, who still doesn’t understand why I’ve decided to run a half marathon… I’m not sure I do either. HA!
