So why this site? I started long distance running again. Not that I hadn’t been running; I’ve started entering in races/competitions again. And to top it all off, I entered myself in the 2010 Disney World 1/2 marathon. It’s one of those things where it sounded great when I made the decision. I had grand images in my mind of me jubilantly crossing the finish line after 13 character-building miles of road. Then I began training. 13 miles is an alarmingly long distance for someone who hasn’t run farther than 5 miles in the past 25 years!

Not to mention that I realized the running gear I had wasn’t going to cut it. If I was going to take on a major 1/2 marathon, then I was at least going treat myself to the right kind of clothing, shoes and accessories. That’s when I began purchasing adidas gear. That’s also when I realized how hard I am on my gear and how quickly I wore it out. It’s damn expensive not just for all the entry fees for races, but also for all the gear for training and running the races.

I chose adidas gear because through my research, I found their running gear to be the best fit for me. I remember in high school [1976-80], I had a pair of adidas tennies that I wore until the stripes literally fell off. I then drew them back in with magic marker. My Mom eventually forced me to throw them away once the soles had started to detach from the uppers. I love adidas.

So then I got the idea to write to the adidas U.S. running marketing department to make a pitch I hoped they couldn’t refuse — to sponsor me. [I wrote them the letter -- go read it; it explains a lot. I just mailed it out last week [October 30th], so I haven’t heard back from them yet. I’ll update this page if/when I do.]

This seemed like an interesting, good idea at the time and I figured, if I didn’t try, I’d never find out if it would succeed. I also figured all they could say is, “No”, and things really wouldn’t be any different than they are now… except that I’d still have this site and a wee bit of egg on my face.

So that’s what this site is about. I’ll also be posting about my experiences with training for my upcoming races as well as the races themselves.  Thanks for coming by and if you have a Twitter account and would like to assist me in my quest, just click on the birdie below to magically tweet your support to adidas.
